Vizcaya Bridge

Our first full day in Bilbao started with the work tube journey I have ever had, and then a tour of all the Ports (just for L). It was very cold and windy but we managed to warm ourselves up with pintxos and wine.

We used just about every method of transport possible (which was good seeing as we accidentally out 50 Euros on our Birak card!!), including a glass lift and this amazing transporter bridge. It was the first bridge in the world to carry people and traffic on a high suspended gondola and was used as a model for many similar bridges in Europe, Africa and the America only a few of which survive. It was made this way so as not to disrupt the Port and to allow ships to pass below it.

Our day ended with a quick trip to the beach and a night out which involved 2kgs of Ox and 10 Euro gins. Brilliant.
