Life in a Northern Town

By kagsy

Remember when...

- there were about 20 baubles on the Christmas tree & the same ones came out year after year after year.

- tinsel was like a piece of string dipped in glitter

- you got excited about undoing the metal hook and unfolding the paper concertina decorations, transforming them into angels' wings and snowmen.

- it was not cheaper to buy a new set of fairy lights than to replace a bulb.

- the frayed lead on the fairy lights was hanging out of a bakelite plug (how on earth were we not all electrocuted?).

- the phrase "flame retardant" had not been invented.

- advent calendars did not contain chocolate, the doors would be closed up and the same calendars would be brought out again the next year.

- the much anticipated double edition of the Radio / TV Times had listings for just 3 channels.

- you only ate sprouts, satsumas, Matchmakers and Quality Street at Christmas.

- this was the only Christmas song!
