Caution: Artists at work...

A sub-group of the Absent Voices crew were busy working away in Greenock today. (We never stop...)

This picture shows lead Absent Voices artist, Alec Galloway (left), and the poet John Glenday having a chat at the Beacon Arts Centre, which is just a short distance away from the sheds, at Custom House Quay.

John had come down from his home in Drumnadrochit in the Highlands for the day to meet AV artist, Alastair Cook at the Sugar Sheds

It was the first time John has been in the sheds and he was drinking in the atmosphere on a dreich, albeit unseasonably balmy, December day.

Alastair and John are collaborating on a Filmpoem for Absent Voices. Expect an online Filmpoem and a book next spring... very exciting.

John and Alastair came to the Beacon for lunch to meet up with Alec, me (Jan Patience), Paul Bristow, who kicked off the campaign to save the sugar sheds back in 2011 and Bob Pollock, who will be filming some of the work being done in the name of Absent Voices over the course of the next year.

Great sparks were flying. Following on from the media coverage in the last week, the word about Absent Voices is spreading far and wide.

If you're near a digital radio – or a computer – tomorrow, Alec and Alastair will be on BBC Radio Scotland's Culture Studio at 2pm (GMT for our international friends) talking to Janice Forsyth about the Absent Voices project.
