Walking

The sun poked through the fog for 5 minutes, and suggested it might be a sunny morning, so I changed all plans and caught a bus further up the Forest. But by the time I was up there, the sun had gone in and it was grey and damp. It was still a wonderful walk; the fog made it so atmospheric, and the air perfectly still, and trees dripping. Didn't see anyone else for ages, but the Forest isn't exactly High Lonesome, you can hear dogs barking and traffic on the A roads - there's one right up the middle of the Forest!

After a while I finally located Loughton Camp, an Iron Age encampment, maybe used to enfold animals during trouble - actually its never been excavated, so no one really knows.

Came out of the Forest at Loughton, where Lopping Hall is. When City of London took over the Forest, the villagers lost their lopping rights in the Forest. The Hall was built as compensation.

Took lots of photos today, pleased with them, you can see more on my instagram account. Pretty restful today, after yesterday.
