Diary of an Edinburgher

Gossip and jabs

Had dealings with another idiot person who doesn’t know her job. Last night I illegally parked and hopped into the Travel Clinic to buy the malaria pills. I have to have a ‘personal prescription’ from the doctor costing £20 to buy them a few pennies cheaper at the chemist.

Anyway, this idiot person who didn’t know their job, told me I had to have a prescription from a doctor - I couldn’t just come in and buy them. Rang again this morning and got a sensible person who knew their job. Yes, they’ll have them ready for me to pick up and will give me a ring.

The firewood person arrived at the door. I only ordered it yesterday - how efficient!

An ex-neighbour popped in for a coffee and a gossip. It’s all been happening at the old place - stolen bikes being stashed in the (unlocked) stairwell, and her upstairs neighbour (a young lad I taught a few years ago) is in trouble with the police. Tried to sell a stolen bike to another neighbour who happens to be a probation officer and who got suspicious. Duh!

We went for our injections inoculations jabs. With trepidation, it must be said. Both terrified. I had mine first and managed not to let out a squeal, and maintain an impassive visage.

I exclaimed to JR, ‘It’s nothing!’ But she didn’t know whether I was kidding or not… Which was the idea, of course.

Only got two, not three. One in each arm, and the typhoid is a pill, thankfully. I expect sore arms tomorrow. Mind you, my arms are normally sore anyway, so I shouldn’t notice a thing.

Suitcases are out. What to bring on safari is at last being considered. I have discovered that I have given away all of my shirts/blouses, which will be the best thing. Will have to buy some cheapies.

The parcels that our pal has had delivered to us for transport, (plastic champagne glasses and assorted party pieces) actually take up a whole suitcase! We’ll take an old one and leave it there. That's her Christmas present.

A glass of wine is in order after a stressful week. We did check with the nurse that this was all right. She thought a whole bottle wouldn’t be a good idea. Never is.

This is our vestibule (I've got a vestibule!! I've always wanted one!) door, reflected in two paintings in the hallway.
