Phim Philalai

Astroman and I visited the province of Suphanburi today. During the trip we learned about Khun Chang, Khun Phaen and Phim Philalai who are the main characters of a famous epic Thai poem. The story is a classic love triangle. Khun Phaen is handsome but poor and Khun Chang is ugly but rich and they are competing for the beautiful Phim Philalai. The story ends in tragedy: ultimately Phim Philalai is condemned to death for failing to choose between the two men.

In the photo is the statue of the beautiful Phim Philalai at the temple of Wat Pa Le Lai. People give offerings of make-up and pearls to the statue.
