If I didn't read special cycling-related bits of the internet I doubt I've have noticed this or learnt about it by any means other than accidentally walking over it before the painted bicycle is scuffed away. I used to use the left-hand bicycle-exemption all the time back in the day before Princes Street was all trambled to buggery, but have got out of the habit of going that way in the years since it was properly possible.
