We love reading!

We went to the library today and picked up the books I had put on hold. Can you tell the boys love Julia Donaldson books? Marley especially does.

Anything written by her and illustrated by Axel Scheffler capture his wee imagination. Rhyming, great descriptions and the creative illustrations make it fun to read and I'm not ashamed to say that I love reading these to the boys just as much as they love being read to. If I could I would buy all of their books, we have the gruffalo and the gruffalos child so it's a start to our collection. We've read other books of hers that were illustrated by Nick Sharratt but the pictures were so simple and plain compared to those done by Axel Scheffler.

We also got Marmaduke duck which Marley loves, it's a great rhyming book too that has a lot of assonance thrown in so as he reads along with me it causes him to annunciate which is great for his speech.

Another big hit with Marley is Pamela Allen books like Mr McGee and who sank the boat.

And of course to top it off the classic Ferdinand the bull.

So after a busy morning of running errands and last minute Christmas shopping we came home and sat on the couch all afternoon reading these books over and over, it was so nice to have them cuddle up with the tv off and just read
