Friday market

Today we traveled to the town of Ocotlán for their huge Friday market. Markets exist everyday, many of them stationary, but some towns have a special market day where people from all over the surrounding area bring their animals, produce, textile, housewares, CD"s, clothing, Christmas decorations, and prepared food to sell.

This photo shows how the meat is displayed. Almost all of the meat here is sold in very thin cuts, not in thick slabs or steaks. Butchers are masters at perfectly hand slicing the meat almost paper thin. It is usually grilled over charcoal and often finely chopped for tacos or other tasty treats. You can buy the meat raw, or they will BBQ it for you to take home, or BBQ it and fix you up with a delicious taco right on the spot!

The white bags next to the meat are filled with dried chiles.

Figuring out the travel method and traveling to these towns is always an adventure in itself!
