First Morning Light

This is a photograph of the sun's first morning rays hitting the Great Sand Dunes in Colorado. I never slept the night before - I spent the whole night trekking through the dark dunes with my tripod in order to get in position for this shot. My friend, far away in the distance, continued to climb towards the dune summit. The first rays of sun came over the rocky mountains at the perfect angle and for a few seconds, he was perfectly illuminated in the brand new sun.
