Dove of Peace

A full moon,shed shimmering light,
into far reaches of the night
From my window,I could see,
a snow-white dove in the lilac tree
Against bare branches,this pure-white dove,
was illuminated by starlight high above
Stillness reigned on a night so still
The dove flew down to my window sill
I gazed at the bird,in awed surprise
It looked at me with knowing eyes
Was this an omen,from the Christmas Dove?
One of hope,peace and brotherly love?
I watched in wonder,as away he flew,
in ever wider circles,in the midnight blue
Moonglow touched its outspread wings,
just as chapel bells began to ring
Into the cosmos it traveled far
Beyond the moon and guiding star!
