In My Life

Book Mania...

We visited the famous Libreria Acqua Alta (“High Water Bookstore”) in Venice today. The bookshop, has to be of the most original in the world, it's great place to rummage amongst thousands of books, calendars and postcards. The shop takes its name from the notorious Venice flood waters that often swamp the store. The labyrinth of interconnected rooms feature various unique ways of displaying books including a full sized gondola! In a tiny courtyard to the back of the shop, there is staircase made entirely from books offering a pleasant view of the adjacent canal from the top, if you are brave enough to venture up. Here the owner Luigi poses with a couple of his feline assistants.
