Two schools of thought
There are two schools of thought when it comes to eating your first birthday cake.
One says that you daintily drag your finger through the icing and suck it off your fingers. The obvious benefit of this method is that the mess is minimized and most of the cake ends up in your tummy.
The other says that you plunge face first into the cake and take a bite. The biggest drawback from this method isn't that most of it ends up on your face but that the icing plugs your nostrils momentarily.
Either method is considered viable and acceptable conduct at your party in addition to being cute and entertaining to adults.
On possibly the most blustery Fall day ever we managed to grill in the park to celebrate these two girls' birthdays, born only twelve hours apart.
