Poor Elephants

Worst experience ever! We booked to go on a two day elephant mahout camp as we knew Chiang Mai had a good elephant reserve that looked after rescued elephants. That one was full so we booked with another one that was mentioned in the Lonely Planet thinking it would be similar.

I should have done more research! From the second we arrived we saw about 30 elephants all chained up with very short chains and very close to each other. They were only unchained to take us round the grounds riding them. I felt so sorry for the poor animals. I'm so mad at myself for giving this horrible place my money and supporting them with keeping all these elephants like that.
