Brizzle

A lovely weekend spent in the drizzle in Brizzle, to celebrate Stevie's 21st.

Didn't get to see a great deal of the city, unfortunately and it's not somewhere I'm particularly familiar with, but we did take an evening wander to see the bridge lit up on Saturday and a morning wander on Sunday, post cooked-breakfast.

Stevie's old house (which his girlfriend, Brit, still lives in) is in a really artsy area of town, with a sort of Camden-y vibe to it. There's graffiti and street art everywhere and this funny bunny was part of a mural on the front of a shop selling local artwork. I though he was rather cute. I'm not pleased with the angle of the photo... it would have looked much better if I'd been bothered enough to cross a busy main road to get it right. But people were waiting and so it is as it is :)

Considering I've just done a module in intellectual property and am considering writing an essay on online image rights, I should probably note the moral ambiguity of photographing someone's artwork, not asking their permission and not crediting the work properly - indeed, I don't even know who's work this is. But that's the problem when you put your work into the public domain, isn't it? Whether it's posting a photo online, or creating works of art in a public space, you kind of release some of your ownership over that work. It becomes very difficult to control who uses that work and to what end. I think that so long as you are not taking credit for something that is not yours there is very little harm done - indeed many artists and photographers rely on word-of-mouth marketing and online sharing to disseminate their work. An interesting issue nonetheless, though.
