Leather Anniversary!!!
Today it is three years since Geoff and I tied the knot. Apparently it is our 'leather' anniversary.
We had a funny old December 2010, Geoff was an only child whose father died when he was five, so for the rest of his life it was his mum and him, they both lived all their lives in Rugby until I came on the scene and after travelling 100 hundred miles to see each other for four years Geoff and his mum moved down to Essex. His mum moved to a flat in the town and as Geoff was unable to find work for the first nine months he cared for her and she really enjoyed their time together, in early 2010 he took on a job in catering, quite a difference from his original role as a toolmaker but needs must. Margaret started to go down hill with her COPD causing her more and more problems. She died on the 4 December 2010 while I was away on my hen weekend, Geoff being Geoff didn't tell me until the Sunday, after a lot of work by the undertaker we were able to hold the funeral on the 15 December just three days before our wedding. Fortunately Margaret had already decided not to attend the wedding so there wasn't an empty seat just a whole in our hearts.
Geoff and I both married young, him at 19 and me six weeks after my 18th birthday. These marriages lasted twenty years and produced our wonderful children.
We both had second marriages which lasted five years and then met each other, we have been together since 2005 and the last eight years have just flown by, not sure if that is old age or happiness!!
Our wedding was at The Angel and was one of the last held there. The wedding was attended by 42 of our closest relatives and friends, we had one big rectangular table to seat everyone, no best men or women, old enough to give ourselves away, I did the speech, Dad managed a speech, which he had worried about as it was a year after his stroke, three of our children took part by undertaking readings, two others signed the register.
Here is some of our music:
Arrival in the room
Signed the register
Walked back down the aisle
We sat down to eat around 18:30 and because of the way everyone was chatting and getting on the speeches didn't take place until around 21:00 just after my brother, his wife and son arrived after a 9 hour plus journey from Little Sandhurst due to the very heavy snow fall!
After the speeches Geoff took me off to the bedroom where Charlie, the organiser at the hotel, had set up a bottle of champagne, and this was when I found out the my children, Tim, Jon, Becca and Chris, had something up their sleeve.
Charlie phoned and we went back down, only to find Nick Harper ready to play our own personal gig. I have been going to see him since 1996, when I saw him support Difford and Tilbrook from Squeeze, his father is Roy Harper.
Not only had the children arranged this without my knowledge, Nick had taken over ten hours to get there from Marlborough due to the weather, his car had broken down so he had hired one to carry on the journey. Needless to say he was fantastic.
Food and accommodation had been arranged for him and he was up until the early hours with my boys, with the youngest, Chris, falling asleep on him at 04.00.
I will add some photos to my blipfolio in a few minutes.
