Elegant design

This mechanism is known as a "Stay-Tab" or sometimes "An Ecology Top" - because you can open the drink without creating extraneous litter. Who remembers the predecessor - "The Ring Pull?" or before that the odd special drinks can opener called a "Church Key?"

Great design requires iteration (as Darwin might have said).
I expect the Stay-tab will be bettered, eventually.
