The Tongariro Alpine Crossing

The Alpine Crossing...what can I say? Heralded as 'the best one-day trek in New Zealand' we managed to finish the 19.4 kilometre journey in just about the 8 hours advertised (for those of average fitness). There were people with army style backpacks on whilst doing the same treacherous walk as us! Even an extremely fit pregnant lady passed us!? We quickly realised we were sharing this walk with some extreme trekkers. I would definitely recommend this to anyone that visits the North Island, for the experience and amazing views, but just prepare yourself for exhaustion. Poor Sol did have to put up with a few moans and groans from me after my left knee had decided enough was enough. Ultimately we are so glad that we did this and that we made it to our bus at the end without being stranded. This is a close up of Mount Tongariro (aka Mount Doom).
