Le Cercle Rouge

Tonight's film, movie-fans, is the classic 1972 French feature "Le Cercle Rouge" (The Red Circle.)

Essentially a cops and robbers jewel-heist story the cast includes some of the greatest French actors of the period including Alain Delon, Yves Montand and the guy in my Blip, Francois Perier (now there's a great French face for you.)

Director Jean Pierre Melville said he wrote the screenplay in 1950 but put it on the back-burner after the film Rififi came out in 1955 with a very similar heist scene (both robberies have no dialogue at all while the thieves go about their business - very compelling.)
He also has his initials "JPM" stamped on the all-important security button which must be disabled as part of the dastardly plan.

I love Le Cercle Rouge and recommend it highly - weirdly, they're doing a remake coming out next year staring Liam Neeson, Orlando Bloom and yes, Alain Delon (thought he was dead.)

Zut Alors!
