Storm clouds over the city

Wet weather is often regarded as useless for photography. Yet the transitions between different wet weather fronts can be a source of interesting pictures. I opened the curtains this morning to a rainbow but it was fading fast. However storm clouds were sweeping in from the east.

Once the bank of cloud began to close over the sun, the contrast lessened and I took this weather shot of the storm cloud formation with a gradation of foreground depth created by the tree, rooftops, more distant houses and the turrets to the receding tower blocks and far distance trees on the horizon. The sleet storm was pounding down when I took this with the telephoto setting and this shows up against the darker surfaces.
