On the one hand the white flecked sea and bumpy horizon - indicating that while calm and sunny in the estuary it was a whole lot more unfriendly outside.

On the other the reefed sail and holding the tiller directly - pointing to sailors not that well practiced a sailing a small dinghy.

Unsurprisingly after 15 minutes careering around in the gusts off Teignmouth beach I next spotted them with all sails down, paddling themselves home...
