Into the Void
Had a great day yesterday, in Birmingham with friends.
Started with SO and me meeting up with N, who drove us into Birmingham, where we met up with J (Mrs N), T and J2 (T's son) for a delicious lunch at Carluccio's. Then J left for a wedding and the rest if us set off for a rather long and too-fast-for-me walk to the cinema to see Hunger Games 2 (haven't seen the first one), which was surprisingly good. Then another frogmarch to the NIA for the Black Sabbath gig which was a cracker: they were fantastic, the sound was great for such a cavernous hall, and a good time was had by all. Though I had problems with the seats as my legs just wouldn't fit, and as I already had knee and hip problems in my left leg I did have to get up and stretch it towards the end. A hat tip to the friendly arena steward who asked if I was ok and offered to get me chair where I could sit more comfortably. In the end I went back to my seat and was ok for the rest of the gig.
Took a few photos, though I was determined to not take them all through the show as I'd rather just watch it properly. Choice came down to this one from Into the Void (one of my favourite Sabbath songs, with one of the best ever metal riffs), or one towards the end where they dropped black and purple balloons after purple "snow". Into the Void won. Mostly because of the lights, which I like a lot, and you can sort-of make out Tony Iommi on the video screen, as well as at the right hand corner of the stage.
Special thanks to N for ferrying us into Birmingham and plying me with tea in the small hours so I could get SO and me back to mine ok. And for the line of the day, to SO, regarding Sabbath: "think of it as Birmingham folk music"! Which is a) hilarious, b) I wish I'd thought of it and c) actually not totally inaccurate.
