St Peter's Church

We parked the car at East Carleton Country park intending to take a walk in the bitterly cold wind in the hope that the germs would be blown away and we would blip something outside for a change. As we turned towards the village the sun was casting a rather lovely light on the Church. Blip solved.

The Church is a grade 1 listed building and was originally built in 1228. In 1785 the Lord of the Manor was granted permission to make extensive alterations including a new floor and box pews. There was of course a special box pew for Sir John Palmer (who had paid for the alternations) and his family. There is also a double decker pulpit. A plaque marking the end of WW1 gives thanks for the 7 men of the village who volunteered, did their duty, and returned home safely! The population of the village just prior to the outbreak of war was 87.

We did take our walk although shorter than planned due to the bitter wind. We also managed several different shots, so it seems a return visit is likely.

Wishing you all a VERY HAPPY CHRISTMAS!
