Christmas eve
With the continuous rain and high winds yesterday we have many areas flooded and quite a few trees blocking the roads. Luke went out to London last night and stayed over at a friend's house, and I had a mild panic when he phoned to say that he could not get home as all the trains were cancelled. He eventually got a train to another station but then I could not collect him due to fallen trees blocking the roads. I eventually had to make a serious detour to pick him up and get him home again.
With the rain lashing down yesterday afternoon I decided it was a good time to catch up on all the TV that I have missed over the past few weeks. I watched 4 episodes of Homeland back to back and this morning I could hardly wait to watch the final episode of series 3 - I snuck off from my Christmas preparations to indulge in an hour in front of the TV to watch the series finale...and what an ending! I will not spoil it for those who have not yet watched it but what a brilliant series this has been - the best TV show to come out of the USA! I never expected that ending though, and I am still reeling from the ending. If you have never watched Homeland, do not stop at go, rush out and buy the box set now!
And now it is Christmas Eve...we always celebrate by having smoked salmon blinis and champagne before a light supper of baked salmon, salad and baby potatoes. I don't think that this is very traditional but it is our tradition and we do not want a heavy meal as we know that tomorrow will involve a serious amount of eating!
At this time of year I always miss our family and friends who are far away in South Africa, Canada and Australia. I raise a glass in their honour...cheers!
