Italy Day 2: The Pope and the Pantheon

Again woke up late (a recurring theme is emerging…) and was unsure whether to dash across the city to see the Papal Blessing. I'm glad I decided to make the trip though - and I'd encourage anyone visiting Rome while the Pope is in town to do the same, regardless of your religious viewpoint.

The atmosphere in St. Peter's Square is celebratory, with groups from around the world meeting together to receive the blessing. Appearing at the window, Papa Francesco was met with loud cheers, as well as trumpets and drums.

Overall, a slightly bizarre experience, but I can now say that I've received a blessing from the Pope!

Left the Vatican and found myself in the gardens of a nearby castle, so spent an hour or so just relaxing in the shade of the trees watching people pass by and planning the rest of the day.

Decided to return to the Pantheon just in time for the second thunderstorm of the trip, but was able to take a look inside this time. Another fascinating roman building, and a roof begging to be photographed.
