KIRSTENBSCH CHRISTMAS PICNIC

As the years pass, the children grow up, new families are formed and it becomes more difficult to keep up. The Kirstenbosch morning picnic of coffee and chat has become a popular tradition for the cousins to get together with their children, the new generation. Bonding by paddling in the stream and fishing for tadpoles, the children play while the adults chat and catch up.
Sophie, the only girl amongst a bunch of boys is delighted to meet her older glamorous cousins. She is dressed to the nine's,wearing all her Christmas cracker bling.
After a few hours we go our own ways, relaxed and happy to have shared a few precious hours together.
We decide that the picnic food is "onthou kos" (food remembered) as we are reminded of Maureen's short bread, Granny"s mince pies, Ouma's rusks and the soetkoekies of our childhood beach holidays at Still Bay.
