Kewpie dolls...
These two little dolls date from the early 1950's and are part of a window display for a lovely little card shop in Strathaven. They are so cute..!
Kewpie dolls have an interesting history. They were created by an American illustrator, Rose O'Neill, who designed a collection of cherub faced little characters for a cartoon first printed in Ladies Home Journal in 1909. She was then approached by a German toy manufacturer who wanted to turn the cartoon charcters into a line of dolls. The dolls were created initially in bisque china, and first appeared in 1912. By 1914, Rose was the highest paid female illustrator in the USA.
If you happen to have an original bisque Kewpie in your attic, then it is worth quite a bit of money now...:)
Spent much of today wrapping, then went out for dinner in the evening. Nice relaxing day...
