Trees near Harsfold Manor, Wisborough Green

Today was an excellent day for getting out and about and taking pictures provided you had wellies and kept away from flooded or blocked roads! I just went the 2 miles to Wisborough Green and walked down Harsfold Lane to as far as I could go. This wasn't that far but to the edge of the massively flooded River Arun floodplain. I haven't seen floods like this in years and certainly not since October 2000.

These trees were taken on the higher and I think more interesting ground south of Harsfold Manor. There are a lot of good individual Oaks on their own or in pairs around here as the hedgerows are not very high and are regularly cut. With excellent clear conditions, they show up well against the winter sky. The hills in the background are part of Bedham ridge. This is formed of Lower Greensand and is covered in ancient and mainly broadleaved woodland and is a nature reserve owned by the Sussex Wildlife Trust.
