Early Morning Steam

The Isle of Wight Steam Railway Boxing Day Specials get off to a flying start as the Engine Waggoner comes into the station to hook up to the first train of the day.

With wall to wall sunshine the several hundred passengers, all who had managed to negotiate the numerous diversions and roads closed all over the Island due to flooding, had a good time riding the trains with mulled wine and mince pies to speed them on their way.

The local electric trains will be out of action for a long time with sections of their permanent way subsiding and flooding to the roof of a tunnel near Ryde so we were quite proud to be one of the few railways operating fully in the country.

However the sunny weather is not to last as we are now expecting more torrential rain and storm force winds overnight and tomorrow.
