Lucy and Caley

Just for a change M and I took Lucy and Caley to Achaderry. We were there a good hour, went up to Machine Gun Hill and then Caley had a good few swims in the wee lochans. (Lucy doesn’t do swimming).
Most notable was the absence of any really heavy rain. We were clad for it in preparation, and while it rained heavily before our arrival and since we came away it was actually very pleasant indeed. I can’t quite put my finger on it, though far from bright, there was a real clarity to the air and every twig, old leaf and strand of straw like grass seemed to stand out vividly. There were loads of blip options.

When Lucy joins Caley on a walk the format is the same every time. Caley gets the ball, runs and effortlessly outpaces Lucy and this makes her very “crabbit” in a manner disproportionate to her perceived hardship. The odd time she gets possession of the ball she runs with it for a wee while and Caley, possibly to her consternation, has no interest in winning it back. The ball in her mouth has no value if he doesn’t want it back so she just drops it.
We have arrived at the end point of a walk previously and turned to Lucy and said “What have you done with the ball?” knowing fine she had it last. We have then retraced the last few bends of the walk and told Caley to “Find the ball!. He is naturally very systematic in those situations; either going in wider orbits from a starting point or sweeping the undergrowth back and forward in big zig zags. When he picks up the scent his tail wags faster until he is within a couple of feet of picking it up when the tail is motion blurred such is his excitement. He is so pleased with himself when he comes back to you with it.
This is Lucy and Caley at the edge of one of the Lochans.
