Scott's Stables

Tried to visit Abbotsford House today, but discovered that it had closed last week until 1 April.

So a soggy walk along the river arrived at the stable block - much in disrepair but with a plan to restore them.

When Scott was Sheriff sitting at Selkirk he would ride across every day the court was sitting. He kept five horses here, and a magnificent Rolls Royce of a carriage for his wife. The carriage was used to welcome George IV on his visit to Edinburgh in 1822. In the winter all the equipage - horses and carriages - had to be moved up to winter quarters in Edinburgh.
