The fireworks must have been cancelled or something. We left early enough that we would have definitely heard or seen them on the way, even if we ended up not arriving until everyone else was clearly leaving. Definitely. We'd definitely have at least heard them inside the house if we didn't get around to leaving until too late. Undoubtedly. Fortunately the wee weary boy fell asleep shortly after starting to whimper at the absence of the alleged fireworks so was a bit better-placed to recount his disappointment when he woke up later on.
