Lost at Sea

This sculpture was erected at the end of the promenade in Morecambe UK a good few years ago now. It's a tribute to all those sailors lost at sea. A strange edifice, composed of thousands of tiny mosaics covering the sculpture itself. The actual correlation of the symbolism between this and the deaths of countless people at sea, I must admit escapes me...other than the apparent plucking of someone from the waves perhaps? Have I missed something?
