Frustrating Afternoon

Frustrating afternoon. I broke one of our dinner plates at lunchtime - a Denby bone china plate which shouldn't in principle be hard to replace.

Wasted the whole afternoon trying to track a replacement down in central London. Despite being a classic brand, the Denby ranges in the major stores were feeble. (We bought our dinner service off the shelf from John Lewis not long ago but they no longer seem to stock it "in-store".)

Dealt with gormless shop staff in Oxford Street and faced the horror that is 2013-style Harrod's:- the store layout is unfathomable and I swear I was the only person there who wasn't an oligarch.

Came home beaten and bowed and ordered a replacement on-line which took 5 minutes and is what I should have done all along.

Tell me: what is the point of the High Street today?
