Mermaid's Purse

Found this, drifting towards me as I paddled in the shallow waters of the North Wales coast.
Was it a jellyfish? Nah, too much substance. Was it an old oily carrier bag? Nah, too much life. Was it a poor female's inner genitalia? Nah, smelt too nice*.

I was informed it was actually the case that carries Skate eggs. I've no idea of the actual name for these things if there actually is a name, but they call them a 'Mermaid's Purse'. I think that's just a euphemism for the freaky alien looking thing.

*No offence ladies ? any inner organ from the human body probably smells rank after falling out into the earth's ether.
