This feels better

An early morning run before heading south to the North Shore Hospital for the day. A rather varied collection of photos taken during my run ended up being upstaged by this picture. Shortly before I left the waterfront on my way home, I saw a heron struggling to maintain its balance on the overhead power lines. Eventually it gave up and flew a short distance before trying again, with equal lack of success.

I was intrigued as I had never before seen a heron trying to perch on wires. Got a couple of shots (a little soft) of it on the wire. It then flew a little closer to where I was and perched on the flat top of the pole.

It was only this evening, when I downloaded the photos from this morning into my photo library, that I realised that this is actually barely more than a fledgeling; not even grown enough to be called a juvenile, I would say. Earlier, I had spotted one or two adult herons on the water's edge (tide very high, so pickings would be slim). Mum and Dad out foraging for a rapidly growing child.

Then followed a full day, which was the usual mixture of frustrations with the system (balanced with the comforting thought that my exposure to it is only temporary), and satisfaction that what we are able to do is generally being positive for the patients.
