Flax Flowers in the Fog
New Zealand native flax, Phormium. The barrel-shaped flowers are brimming with nectar, which is loved by the waxeyes and bellbird. The flower stalks are about 2 metres tall.
When the fog cleared there were patches of blue sky and sunshine, enough to dry my washing. I gasped with surprise when I looked up and saw the mountains. They've been covered in cloud for so long that I was used to not seeing them.
