But, then again . . . . .

Love It, or Hate It.

Today was our last day with The Old Lady for a little while so much of it was spent with household matters.

The Lodge is decorated with reproductions of old advertising posters from the war years, and soon afterwards, though some of my favourites are missing (including the wonderful range Bovril posters). However, this example from Marmite was a long running classic.
They are, obviously, there to remind the residents of their youthful years; unfortunately, most of the staff are too young to remember such things and have  not been told of their significance. It would be wonderful if carers would use them in their activity sessions to stimulate reminiscences.

Earlier this year, Marmite ran a series of spoof animal cruelty themed adverts, they resulted in 504 complaints that it "trivialised  the work of animal welfare charities."  The ads featured uniformed "charity workers" going into homes and rescuing neglected jars of Marmite and re-homing them with families that would love them. A feature was that children's faces were pixilated (to preserve the actors' anonymity) as was that of the "much loved pet dog" that also featured. The story ended with Marmite making an £18,000 donation to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

There is a mythology surrounding Marmite that may be peculiar to Britain, if required, I will expand this entry.
