Architecture

We took Mum to the railway station this afternoon for her journey back home. The station is surrounded by distinctive glass buildings which, in the early days of the city’s growth, were what marked it out as being a brand new and modern place to live. A lot of the plans made by the architects in those days have fallen by the wayside in favour of more traditional buildings just like those to be found anywhere in the country. I liked the original plans for the city and have been disappointed over the years at the dilution of the architect’s vision.

The station buildings can be a delight to photograph because they produce the most amazing reflections of the sky and other buildings giving some beautiful abstract images. I would have blipped these for today’s topic but the weather was against me. It’s been dull, rainy and windy since I got up this morning so the buildings didn’t look at their best. I decided to save them for another more favourable day.

This image shows a building which was designed to bridge the old original shopping centre and a new one which was built sometime later. It has beautiful curves which contrast with the straight lines of both the original and the new structures. I think the original architects would have approved of it.

The image also shows the weather at its most dramatic. Definitely no blue sky for us today.
