King Alfred

On a long weekend away to visit Oxford and the surrounding countryside.

This is the statue of King Alfred the Great in Wantage, Oxfordshire, UK who was born at the royal palace there in the 9th century.

I was born in Wantage and went to school at the Parish of Wantage Church Infant school (only a plaque remains to the school now) back in the 1940-50's - Wantage then was part of Berkshire.
