New Years Eve feast
Sandy-beach whelks (Bullia Digitalis) feasting on a washed up jellyfish, Brenton on Sea.
These little whelks are always seen at low tide cleaning up the beach of carrion deposited by the waves. On looking them up I came across an interesting scientific paper which shows that they actually use the "swash" to surf towards food that they find using their olfactory senses. Amazing, as one would think they'd be at the mercy of the waves!
One lives and learns!
