Self-Portrait Tuesday: farewell 2013...
...it's been a blur!
This photo is in homage to all of the totally out-of-focus, blurry, wonky, and just plain ugly self-portraits that I've taken on Tuesdays this year. The photos destined to not even be imported off the memory card, just ignored then formatted away, never to be seen again. I know, you're shocked, but they really don't take just one frame :)
It's hard to believe that 2013 is over already, what a crazy old year it has been! I'm so glad that I decided to come back to blipfoto to record it all. The year started with major major upheavals: the breakup of a long-term relationship, leaving my home of 5 years and moving to a new place in a new town. I still haven't got a wardrobe.
This was also the year of fun trips and holidays, so so many happy memories! There was the annual photographers' piss-up convention in London (no photographic evidence...), then a trip to Lapland, husky riding, skiing and seeing the Northern Lights. Closer to home I had a wonderful roadtrip around Ireland, saw the view from the Shard, and had a much-needed few days off the grid in the middle of wedding season, hiking on Rathlin Island. I got to photograph base jumpers launching off the edge of a cliff in Switzerland with Tomasz, and snorkelled between two tectonic plates in Iceland. I travelled around the Netherlands visiting old friends and making new ones (my mum is still recovering), and returned to Amsterdam for a fantastic reunion with my best friend just before Christmas.
In between the holidays, I shot 31 weddings and 50 portrait sessions. I watched my sister, friends and relatives get married and have babies. I met some truly amazing and inspirational people, and I've seen my whole outlook on life change.
I'm so so grateful to everyone who has been a part of my life this year. To those who supported me through tough times, force-fed me curry chips when I was at my lowest and couldn't even bear to eat, and went through the trauma of IKEA with me on several occasions. To those who were with me in the good times, who brought smiles, laughter and flirting, hilarious text messages, big hugs and 4am conversations. And to you blippers! For the lovely comments that I really don't reply to often enough, every one is appreciated. Happy New Year to you all! :)
