Time and Tide

Time and tide wait for no one. In the darkness the ebbing tide at Fisherrow reveals the muddy harbour and it takes no notice of the calendar and the fact that the old year is slipping quickly away. Not until the New Year 2014 is almost two hours old will the tide be high but it is just as well because barely half a kilometre along the shoreline fireworks were about to be ignited. Meanwhile hundreds of people were gathering to watch the firework display while excited children were holding their beautiful lanterns as a local Zumba band played.

Eager squeals greeted the spectacular display with the background of the distant lights of Fife twinkling like a necklace across the Forth. Later 80000 people were due to watch the world famous firework display a few kilometres away in Edinburgh but this display was held at a time suitable for family viewing. No doubt at midnight there will be more fireworks to greet 2014 but time means little to the tide which takes notice only of the moon.

Happy New Year.
