Day 1..

..of 2014.

Not a bad start and hope it stays like this for a bit..

Got in from the pub at nearly 2 last night. In Scotland everyone brings in the New Year in such a nice way. Rounds were bought. Everyone had plenty to drink, but at the bells, everything stops. Hands are shaken. Kisses exchanged. And everyone wishes everyone else a good year. I don't ever remember this down South in England, or not with so much enthusiasm. Perhaps it's the intimacy of our small community.

This afternoon and evening it's more of the same. Families sat at tables around the hall, and you do the rounds. Visit every table, and offer - or take a drink, and a blether, and a nibble. Kids run around with ordered wildness. There may even be a dance or two..
