The Spirit of .....East Kilbride

Calderglen Country Park is the home of this monolith. Made of wood, faded red paint lettering on imbedded
sign provides the only clue- 15 May 1953. Is this the date East Kilbride New Town was designated?.

At the base a workman with spade is ready to dig. Atop the figure is about to dive from the high board depicting the spirit of the New Town.

Pity this iconic structure is being allowed to rot. Now covered in lichen giving the top figure a hairy chest appearance the wood is badly weathered and cracking up.
