Happy New Year!

Up early, ate a cooked breakfast then out just as it was getting light.

We have this tradition that we bird all day on a new years day to give our yearly bird list a boost - we hope to see between 50 and 60 species just in South Uist.

We took a picnic lunch although it was way too cold to eat it outside! Shortly after lunch we suspended birding temporarily to watch not one, but two otters frolicking in the river and on the bank. Always great to see :-)

As it got dark at around 4pm we were on 58 species, not a bad start to the year! Celebrated with mulled wine :-)

Bird longer, bird harder, develop bird id skills
Walk more / sit behind computer less
