My most used lens last year

A superzoom - but the time saved not having to change lenses, avoiding crud getting on the sensor, and being able to use the most appropriate viewing angle were important to me - zooming with the feet is neither always possible (at the zoo for example!), nor does it solve the issue of angle of view.
