The Kelpies

On today's Scottish public holiday, KryptoMart and I decided to go a have a wee tour round Falkirk District, taking in the Kelpies (see above), the Falkirk Wheel, and Callender House.

Unfortunately, it was not as successful a trip as anticipated as the Kelpies Visitor Centre (we were looking forward to the the cafe and gift shop) is not built yet, and both the Falkirk Wheel and Callender House were closed to the holiday.

That said, we had a fun day, as ever.

The Kelpies tower a colossal 30 metres above the Forth & Clyde canal and form a dramatic gateway to the canal entrance on the East Coast of Scotland. Sculpted by Andy Scott, the Kelpies are a monument to horse powered heritage across central Scotland.

Each of the Kelpies stands up to 30 metres tall and each one weighs over 300 tonnes.

The two massive horses' heads are positioned either side of a specially constructed canal lock and basin - part of The Kelpies Hub.

Back home now to chill in front of the telly.
