Dances with midges

Friends from the past...

This is where lie the mortal remains of Canon Archibald Campbell, one time rector of Holy Trinity Dunoon. He was here at the start of the Second World War, and back again for quite a while after the war. From the minute books he was very energetic and grappled with church life and fabric problems most energetically. His wife also grappled energetically with the rectory, whipping it into shape. The font cover and cherry tree outside the church are in memory of her. She's buried in this lair, and a few years later (early 60s I think) Archie joined her.

I find it comforting to have some of those who have lived this life in this place still about the place. Henry Pirie, first rector here in the 1840s and onwards is a few yards from Archie. They remind me that one day I will be a marker somewhere, and some lines in a minute book. They remind me that we have a short time and to try and make it count.

So 2014 is another year to try and make a positive difference, just as they did in their years...
