What's for dinner?
Today we went down to Can Tho, the biggest city in the Mekong Delta. We got there on evening just in time to go on a food tour around the city. Our guide, Thoai, took us around and helped us decipher different foods. We had:
- a drink made from a grass that tastes kind of like corn
-mushroom soup with snails and squid
-a fried bun containing shrimp, minced meat and beans ( a special food only found in this city)
- snake!!! (Pictured) We chose which kind of snake we wanted from a tank full of snakes and they killed it, chopped it up and cooked with a bunch of herbs and vegetables. The dish itself was really good, but the snake pieces, which were tiny, were pretty tough.
-sticky rice pancake (rice, sweet yellow beans and sugar wrapped in a thin waffle.
They also have many restaurants serving dog here. It's a food that old people eat when they drink. Pretty common, but the young people I've lakes to say they don't eat it because they have dogs at home.
Fun night!
